Who Decides If a Bus Is Cancelled?
Your local school bus company is responsible for deciding if the buses operate or not during inclement weather. The bus companies review the conditions in the early morning and decide based on information available at that time. The decision to cancel buses is made by 6:30am. The early decision time is necessary to provide time for school bus drivers, school staff and parents so that you can make necessary arrangements for your family. Once the decision is made, the information will be posted to our website mybigyellowbus.ca and to the BusPlanner Delays App. Watch this video for more information on how bus cancellations are decided:

What Is an In-Service Delay?
In-service delays can happen once buses start their routes. Buses may become delayed due to traffic, construction, emergency road closures, and weather. These in-service delays are a routine part of commuting. Delays that are greater than 15 min will be posted by your bus company to the delays and cancellation page at mybigyellowbus.ca and the BP delays app. If your bus is not at the stop at the scheduled time, contact the bus company who transports your student. Bus Company contact information is available here:

Are Delays and Cancellations County-wide or City-wide?
Not always. Sometime the weather conditions are the same though an entire county. Other times there are only portions of a county that needs to be cancelled or delayed. View a map of the weather zones. It is important to know your bus number to know if your bus is affected by a cancellation.

How Do I Know If School Buses Are Cancelled or Delayed?
Bus cancellations are posted to mybigyellowbus.ca by 6:30am. In-service delays are posted once the bus company is aware the bus becomes delayed. All cancellations and delays are also posted to the BusPlanner Delays App. Parents can also subscribe to email alerts for delays and cancellations in their STS Parent Portal. Mybigyellowbus.ca is the official source of delay and cancellation information and is not responsible for the accuracy of information that may be shared by radio/news or other social media outlets.

Buses Are Not Cancelled, But I Don’t Think It’s Safe. What Can I Do?
Families are ultimately responsible for the safety of their child to and from the bus stop and deciding if they ride the bus. You are able to contact your local bus company who transports your child to pass along your feedback on the decision to not cancel buses.
